Hazard Lions Montessori School

The Hazard Lions Club Montessori School was started in 1999. It is a non profit school that cares for infants, toddlers, preschool age, that offers after school age care. Montessori is centered around the child. Dr. Maria Montessori's philosophy was that children teach themselves. This has become known as the Montessori Philosophy. “Free the child's potential and you will transform him into the world.”, Dr. Montessori once said. Based on that statement the children in a Montessori classroom work independently and teach themselves. The children work in the areas of Sensorial, Practical Life, Math, Language, Spanish, Science, Art, History, Geography, Botany, and Computers. All the activities in these areas are simple enough for even the youngest child to understand and as they learn and master those areas they move on to new skills. The children also learn control of movement, order, repetition, exactness and small muscle control, all of which are needs of children ages two through five years. (606) 439-0078
